Closure

flabbergasted
you stand
looking

a thin thread
of incomprehension
holds me back

will you stay?
for a moment
and not turn
abruptly
when you go

words slip
without our consent
or knowledge

I wasn’t leaving
whatever
gave you that idea

words can lie
but bodies
they don’t
or maybe
they can’t?

it’s okay
just this moment
and then
I’ll be numb enough

that hurts
the lack of anger
or indignation

there are no easy respites
no apologies solicited
just a dull guilt
ashamed of itself
